HELP US SAVE CBGB's!!!!!!!!!!!!
CBGB does not own their space. The building is owned by SF Associates and rented to the Bowery Resident's Committee (BRC). The BRC rents the entire building for approx. $16,000 a month and charges CBGB's approx. $19,000 a month for their space (about half the building). The BRC is not a small non-for-profit organization, they are a $25 million dollar a year group that receives over $15 million dollars from the city and state. The BRC also claims that CBGB has not paid their full rent for three years. In fact, the BRC has not properly billed CBGB for those years AND has not provided heat. The BRC is currently not negotiating with CBGBs for a new lease and the lease will expire August 31, 2005. The BRC also has both properties listed and available on the Real Estate MLS for anyone else who wishes to rent 313 and 315 Bowery.
Please write Mayor
Bloomberg a polite note expressing your feelings about this to:
The Honorable
Michael R. Bloomberg
Mayor of New York City
City Hall
New York, N.Y.

DRAFT LETTER
Dear Mayor Bloomberg,
We ask that you use your influence to ensure that CBGB's receives a new lease
from the Bowery Resident's Committee (BRC). CBGB's is not only a cultural icon,
it is an important tourist destination. Furthermore, the rock bands it has developed,
including legends such as the Ramones, Blondie, the B52s, the Talking Heads, and
the Police, as well as new bands such as the Strokes, have generated thousands
of jobs for the city's music industry. The BRC is a non-profit charity almost
exclusively funded by the city and state, and it would be inappropriate for taxpayer
money to be used to evict this important NYC landmark. Thank you for your time
and consideration. Sincerely, ------
You
can also call the Mayor's Office by dialing 311 in New York City (or 212-NEW-YORK
outside NYC); or fax the Mayor at (212) 788-2460; or email him directly through
www.nyc.gov
Please be polite, he just needs
to be made aware of how important this issue is.
CBGB supports the work of
the BRC and is willing to work with them to reach an agreement and even assist
the BRC in their mission to help the homeless – but now the BRC will not even
talk to CBGB.
Please go to cbgb.org
to sign the petition to help save CBGB. For additional information please check
out our CBGB's
action page.

AL ARONOWITZ 1928-2005
One of the great unsung heroes of Rock and Roll, among other things. He introduced Allen Ginsberg to Bob Dylan and Bob Dylan to the Beatles. A unique combination of insightful journalist, beat poet, and rabble rouser, he remains a tragically underappreciated American treasure. I will miss him. He was irascible, irreverent, and irreplaceable and our culture is far less without him.

GREG SHAW 1949-2004
We have some very sad
news to report-- Bomp's founder, Greg Shaw, died on Tuesday, October 19, from
heart failure at the age of 55. Greg's lifelong devotion to discovering, raving
about and releasing authentic -albeit obscure- rock & roll, and promoting
rock fandom over four decades was extraordinary. Among his many accomplishments
were fanzine publisher, magazine editor, band manager, author, indie label owner,
and rock historian. Though his roles often varied, two things were absolutely
consistent: his impeccable taste in music and the ability to be there first.
Though
we grieve for him now, please know that Greg's legacy is the Bomp/Voxx records
he was so proud to release, as ever they will be in print and available to inspire
music lovers everywhere through the efforts of his business partner, Suzy Shaw,
and Alive/Total Energy's Patrick Boissel.
However you choose to honor
Greg's memory-- do it with anything but a moment of silence.

full biography, go here :http://bomp.com/Facts.html
~~~~~~
We lost an extraordinarily important member of the family this week.
As
a fanzine writer, record collector, manager, producer, journalist, and record
company president, Greg Shaw was a lifelong, tireless Rock and Roll advocate.
He
introduced the world to the entire First Generation of the Contemporary Garage
Rock Movement which he created in 1979.
The Underground Garage Radio
Show is built on what he began and we have thanked him publicly every week.
It
took 25 years but his vision is finally being realized.
We will never
see dedication, commitment, passion, and vision like his again in our lifetime.
We
will make sure he is never forgotten.
Welcome to the Revolution.
Today we will walk together on sacred common ground that would have been swallowed up by an unforgiving earth if not for our combined uncompromising will.
We may be of different ages, colors, genders, spirituality, occupations,experiences, and circumstance, but we share our most profound and deeply personal beliefs.
A belief in the eternal coolness.
A belief in the existence of greatness.
A belief in the irrelevance of chronological time.
A rejection of cultural mediocrity in all of its forms.
A rejection of society's impositions of hypocrisy.
A reverence for the renaissance of the 50's and 60's.
A belief in the religion of Rock and Roll.
A gratitude to Q104 for being the first station to broadcast the Underground Garage and to Sirius Satellite Radio for being the first to broadcast the Underground Garage format 24/7.
An acknowledgement of a paradigm shift that has allowed some corporations like Dunkin' Donuts to be cool and be the good guys and keep Rock and Roll alive.
Love and support your fellow rogues, ragamuffins, and rabblerousers in the audience and on stage wherever and whenever possible.
The 21st Century begins today.
The Renegade Dharma Circus has come to town.
Rejoice!
Love and Solidarity,
Little
